Remains of the wall

Between 1933 and 1945 the central institutions of Nazi terror and persecution were located on this site. From here the Nazis coordinated European-wide terror and the genocide of the Jews of Europe.



Symbols

August 1961. With his spectacular jump over the barbed wire, he becomes the symbol of the will to be free. He was only one of 2000 soldiers that fled during the five years following the construction of the Wall.


Checkpoint Charlie (or "Checkpoint C") was the name given by the Western Allies to the best-known Berlin Wall crossing point between East Berlin and West Berlin during the Cold War.
